Nottingham World Music Festival – A successful 1st event

Well, what can we say except a big thank you to everyone who attended the first Nottingham World Music Festival on Saturday 5th September which took place on Sneinton Market Square from 2pm until 9.15pm.

Everything ran on time (near enough), the rain stayed away and the people came from near and far to fill Sneinton Market Square with the most people it has ever seen, approximate numbers from the Sneinton Community Traders who manage the square were 550 people at the peak and an estimate of 2K passed through between 2-9pm.

It was so lovely and heart-warming to see so many people from different backgrounds uniting together to celebrate local music, enjoying the vibes, the space, supporting the stalls, the bar and championing multiculturalism in our great city of Nottingham.

Most of all this event was able to celebrate ‘community’ and put on a free festival for everyone to embrace and enjoy, especially those who live in the Saint Anns, Sneinton and Hockley areas who may have not been able to enjoy or afford to come to this festival if it was a paid event.

Nothing would have been possible without community support and all our funders & sponsors so a big thank you to Fast Graphics, Awards for All, People’s Health Trust (Nomad consultation table), Icanparty and Team Nomad.

Successful Crowd funding appeal – Call out for stall holders – Eventbrite invite

Thank you to everyone who pledged towards our crowd funder, because of you all we were able to reach the £600 target in 28 days.

The additional funds will be used to cover free children activities, the hire of portaloos, printing cost and volunteer expenses.

We are also looking for organisations, businesses and food sellers to get in touch to book a stall at our festival.

Date – Artists update

We have a date!

Saturday September 5th from 2pm until 9pm we will be showcasing a fantastic line up of diverse musical genres.

If you have visited our facebook page you will see that we have started to release the names of some of the artists we have so far confirmed.

We are busy behind the scenes working on logistics and our budget but everything is running smoothly, we are organised and that is a crucial part of putting on a successful event.

We do have the location but will be letting you know about that in a future blog post.

In the meantime we can confirm the following artists will be performing live. We are fully booked and now have a reserve list of bands just in case anyone is unable to perform.

Hi!

Welcome to the Nottingham World Music Festival site, here you will be able to keep updated on this fresh new festival and hopefully you will be willing to support the concept so that it can grow from strength to strength.

Festival season is just around the corner and it dawned on us that so many festivals exclude genres of music that are not ‘mainstream’ enough and also quite a few of them are rather costly.

So simply put we have decided to create Nottingham’s first World Music Festival, a family friendly free entry event that aims to unite different communities together, showcase the melting pot of musical genres, cultures and diversity that we have here in the great city of Nottingham.

We believe there is definitely an audience for a world music festival and that it would also encourage more tourism into the city and surrounding areas.

Gandhi once said ”Be the change you wish to see in the world” so we have decided to do just that!

 Live music is a great way to educate and entertain audiences and we have to decided to start with Nottingham city.

Unity is easy when you look within, not at the skin.
